FIFA has announced the launch of FIFA World Cup: Launch Edition, a new football video game developed in partnership with Netflix Games, ahead of the start of the FIFA World Cup 2026.

The game will be released exclusively on Netflix Games on 11 June, coinciding with the opening day of the expanded 48-team tournament, and will be available to Netflix subscribers at no additional cost.

According to FIFA, the game has been designed to capture the excitement and emotion of the world’s biggest football competition while offering an accessible gaming experience for players of all skill levels. Fans will be able to represent any of the 48 participating nations, compete in all 16 World Cup stadiums and control more than 1,200 players expected to feature at the tournament.

One of the game’s standout features is its innovative control system, which allows users to play on a television while using their mobile phones as controllers. Players simply launch the game on a smart TV, scan a QR code with their phone and begin playing within seconds.

FIFA said the release forms part of its updated digital football strategy aimed at expanding fan engagement through new platforms and technologies. The governing body has increasingly focused on creating innovative ways for supporters to connect with football beyond traditional viewing experiences.

The game also supports up to four players, enabling friends and family members to compete together regardless of their gaming experience. FIFA described the title as a streamlined football simulation that prioritises accessibility, social interaction and immediate gameplay.

The launch marks another significant step in FIFA’s post-EA Sports gaming strategy. Following the end of its long-standing partnership with EA Sports, FIFA has adopted a multi-partner digital approach, with Netflix Games becoming a key collaborator in its efforts to reach a wider global audience.

FIFA added that Launch Edition represents the beginning of a broader gaming journey, with future updates expected to introduce additional features and greater depth after the tournament gets underway.

With the FIFA World Cup 2026 set to be the largest in history, FIFA believes the new game will give supporters another way to experience the tournament and become part of the action from their own living rooms.
