When and where will the 2022 FIFA World Cup finals be held?

The 2022 FIFA World Cup will be held in Qatar from November 20 to December 18, 2022. For the first time, the World Cup will be held in the winter season. The main reason for this was the great summer heat in Qatar.

The matches of the 2022 World Cup finals will be played in 8 stadiums in 5 cities – Doha, Ar Rayyan, Lusail, Al Khor and Al Wakra. All stadiums were put into operation in 2021. It is the first World Cup to be held in the Arab world.

Weather conditions in Qatar

Qatar has a continental tropical climate characterised by great heat and high temperatures. In summer, it reaches 50 degrees Celsius.

The average temperature in November in Qatar is 25.4 degrees Celsius, and 20.8 degrees in December. December and January are the coldest months in the country.

There are no solid rivers in Qatar. Water is obtained by desalination of seawater.

At the same time, all stadiums in Qatar for the 2022 World Cup are equipped with retractable roofs and air conditioning.

Groups of the 2022 World Cup

The World Cup groups are as follows:

Group A: Qatar, Ecuador, Senegal, Netherlands.

Group B: England, Iran, USA, Wales.

Group C: Argentina, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Poland.

Group D: France, Australia, Denmark, Tunisia.

Group E: Spain, Costa Rica, Germany, Japan.

Group F: Belgium, Canada, Morocco, Croatia.

Group G: Brazil, Serbia, Switzerland, Cameroon.

Group H: Portugal, Ghana, Uruguay, Korea.

Regulations and match schedule

32 teams will be divided into 8 groups. The two strongest teams in each group will advance to the playoffs, where teams from the 1/8th finals of the tournament will play in a knockout system. The losing teams in the 2022 World Cup semi finals will play each other in the third-place match.

Calendar of the 2022 World Cup

The matches of the group stage of the 2022 World Cup will take place from November 20 to December 2.

1/8 finals – December 3-6.

1/4 finals – December 9-10.

1/2 finals – December 13-14.

3rd place match – December 17 (Khalifa Stadium in Doha).

Final – December 18 (“National Stadium” in Lusail).

The opening match between Qatar and Ecuador will take place on November 20 at El Bayt Stadium in El Howrah.
