The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has confirmed that a fire incident occurred on the fourth floor of its Abuja office on Saturday.

In a statement shared on its official X handle on Saturday, the agency explained that the fire was quickly noticed by security personnel on duty, who acted immediately to prevent it from escalating.

FIRS noted that the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Fire Service, alongside other emergency responders, arrived at the scene without delay and were able to extinguish the fire, preventing it from spreading to other sections of the building.

The agency confirmed that no casualties were recorded in the incident.

It added that a number of offices on the affected floor sustained damage as a result of the fire.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire may have been caused by an electrical fault, though a full inquiry is ongoing,” FIRS said.

The Service further disclosed that it is currently reviewing and reinforcing its internal safety measures to avert a recurrence.

FIRS also expressed appreciation to the emergency responders and its staff for their swift intervention, which ensured the safety of personnel and reduced the extent of property damage.
