A fire outbreak has destroyed 110 structures at the Kofar Ruwa Timber Market in Kano State.
The incident occurred at about 7:39am on Saturday.
In a statement issued by the spokesperson of the Kano State Fire Service, Kabiru Jafaru, he said the fire affected 75 permanent buildings and 35 temporary structures. He explained that the fire started at a timber dealer’s premises belonging to one Alhaji Abba before spreading to other sections of the market.
He said firefighters from various stations within the Kano metropolis were immediately mobilised to the scene following the receipt of the distress call.
Jafaru said the firefighters successfully brought the inferno under control and prevented it from spreading to other sections of the market.
He, however, did not disclose the estimated value of goods and property lost in the incident or the cause of the fire.
The spokesperson quoted the Executive Director of the Service as urging traders and business owners to remain vigilant and observe fire safety measures, particularly during the harmattan season, when the risk of fire outbreaks may increase.
He advised members of the public to take necessary precautions to prevent avoidable fire incidents.
