Fire Guts Cassava Processing Factory In Oyo

A cassava processing factory was destroyed when fire broke out at the facility located at Ebedi Layout, Alalukimba, Barrack area of Iseyin, Oyo State.

General Manager of Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Mr Akinyemi Akinyinka who confirmed the incident on Tuesday said a distressed call was received at exactly 1.23pm on Monday that the facility was on fire.

Akinyinka said fire fighters led by ACFS Lasisi Banuso was promptly deployed to the scene of incident.

“On arrival, a cassava processing industry made of prefabricated structure was met well alight.

“We swiftly swung into action and restricted the fire to spread to all surrounding properties. The industry was destroyed by fire and prosperity worth millions of naira were destroyed by fire and the agency’s officers were able to save Iseyin Educational Board building, a closest cassava processing industry and other nearby properties,” the general manager explained.

He attributed the incident to indiscriminate bush and undergrowth burning by an identified person, which spread to the industrial premises and set it ablaze.
