Fire has burnt the new house of a husband-to-be, Malam Rilwanu Bello of the Tudun Wada area of Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, three days to his marriage.
An eyewitness, Malam Ukashatu Mohammed, who confirmed the unfortunate incident to our correspondent on Friday in Birnin Kebbi, said the incident occurred on Wednesday night when the relatives of the bride were putting furniture and other items in the groom’s house, three days to their wedding scheduled for today.
According to him, hours after the properties of the bride were arranged in the groom’s house by the bride’s relatives, neighbours saw smoke emanating from the house which attracted passersby who rushed to the scene and luckily put it under control.
“But unfortunately, 90 percent of the properties which were put in the house amounting to millions were burnt to ashes,” Mohammed said.
Efforts to reach out to both the groom and the bride by our correspondent proved abortive as they were busy sharing the invitation cards of their wedding to family and friends.
When LEADERSHIP Weekend contacted the state office of the Fire Service, a director anonymously said they were yet to receive the report of the said incident.
