A petrol tanker loaded with 33,000 litres capacity of premium motor spirit (PMS), a Toyota Prado Jeep and another were razed at Celica Junction, along Ife-Ibadan Expressway of Ibadan, Oyo State capital.
General Manager of the state’s Fire Services Agency, Akinyemi Akinyinka who confirmed the incident, said it was reported at exactly 6:27pm through telephone call on Thursday.
Akinyinka said a crew of firemen led by ACFS Adeniyi Adesina promptly deployed to the scene of incident.
On arrival, he said it was a petrol trailer tanker loaded with 33,000 litres capacity of premium motor spirit (PMS) and a car that were engulfed by fire.
According to him, the firemen swiftly swung into action by applying chemical foam compound and restricted the fire from spreading to the nearby NNPC Petrol Station and surrounding properties.
He added that the fire was jointly extinguished with the officers from Federal Fire Service.
Akinyemi explained that the fire incident was caused by failure of braking system of the truck while on motion which made vehicle lost control, hit the Toyota Prado Jeep and a car, before falling on the open road and ignited fire.
“No casualty was recorded but the fire affected the trailer tanker and a car, while a Jeep was hit by the trailer into the nearby gutter. The fire services were able to save the NNPC filling station and nearby properties from the devastating fire”, he said.
The Senior Adviser on Fire Reform/Chairman, Dr Maroof Akinwande urged the public to proceed with their daily activities without fear as the fire had been completely extinguished.
