Fire Razes 8 Shops In Oyo

No fewer than eight shops have been reportedly razed when fire gutted the shopping complex beside the Sango Police Division in Ibadan, Oyo State capital.

Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Fire Reform and Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Dr Moroof Akinwande, confirmed the incident on Tuesday.

Akinwande said the agency received a distress call on Monday, December 29, 2025, at exactly 12:43 hours through a telephone call that shops belonging to one Mr Akanni were on fire.

According to him, immediately, firefighters led by ACFS Bamidele Samsudeen promptly mobilised and deployed to the scene of the incident.

On arrival, “We met eight out of 84 shops engulfed by fire. Firemen promptly launched a coordinated attack on the blaze and restricted the fire from spreading to other shops.

“The firefighting operation was jointly carried out with the officers from the Federal Fire Service Ibadan Command. No casualty was recorded, and the root cause of the fire incident was yet to be ascertained, and the fire investigation is still in progress,” he said.

Akinwande urged the public to be aware of fire safety and emphasised the importance of having fire extinguishers in every shop and household to prevent fire incidents at an early stage.
