Fire Razes Orphanage Home In Lagos

A story building occupied by an orphanage home on Wole Madariola street, Aguda, Lagos, has been razed by fire.

This was disclosed in a statement on Monday by The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).

The agency revealed that the inferno was caused by a power surge that emanated from an air conditioning unit in the building.

According to the statement, the permanent secretary of LASEMA, Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, said the agency recieved the distress call on the fire incident on Sunday at about 2:43pm

The statement noted that a total of seven boys with ages ranging between one to seven years were quickly evacuated form the home and safely to the compound opposite the building.

The statement further explained that Post Disaster Assessment showed that the whole first floor was salvaged while the fire was contained in the store room. The rest of the ground floor was also salvaged.

The statement quoted LASEMA boss as saying “no injury, no casualties were recorded in the near fatality- incident, the operation was successfully concluded in record time.”

Also, LASEMA disclosed in the statement that the children have been formally handed over to the Child Protection Unit of Lagos State, whIch formally handed over the seven children to the Red Cross.
