First Bank of Nigeria (FBN) plams to establish a state-of-the-art 24-hour Digital Experience Centre within the premises of Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH).
The project is part of the bank’s efforts to expand technology-driven self-service banking outlets across higher education institutions in Nigeria.
The bank’s team, led by Mrs Abimbola Kunle-Ajayi, group head, Branch Operations Services Group (Lagos and West), disclosed this during a courtesy visit to management.
She explained that the initiative aligns with FBN’s goal of deepening digital financial inclusion and meeting the evolving needs of young, tech-savvy customers. Mrs Kunle-Ajayi described YABATECH as a strategic location, noting its long-standing reputation as Nigeria’s premier tertiary institution.
“The world is moving fast towards digitalisation, artificial intelligence and self-service banking, and as a bank, we launched our Digital Experience Centres in 2021, immediately after COVID-19, to position ourselves as a leading modern financial brand,” she said.
The group head noted that the bank currently operates eight Digital Experience Centres across Lagos, Abuja, and select universities, including the University of Lagos and the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, among others.
According to her, plans are already underway to commission another centre at the University of Ilorin by December, as our focus is to replicate these centres in key tertiary institutions. The facility offers completely self-operated services from cash deposits and withdrawals to card issuance, fund transfers and other automated banking processes”.
The Rector of YABATECH, Dr Ibraheem Abdul, welcomed the FBN delegation and commended the bank for considering the college for the project, describing the visit as a meeting between two pioneering institutions.
