Seventy-two personnel from different security agencies in Kebbi State have been trained in Emergency Rapid Response (ERR) against flooding by the Nigerian Red Cross Society.
Red Cross disaster management officer Nwoacha Ekeoma disclosed this to journalists after a two- week intensive training on emergency flood response and disaster preparedness in Kebbi State.
She said the personnel were drawn from each of the six riverine local government areas of Shanga, Ngaski, Yauri, Argungu, Bagudo and Koko/Besse.
Ekeoma said the trainees comprised directors of social welfare from the benefitting six local government areas, personnel of the Federal Fire Service (FSS), the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Red Cross volunteers.
She revealed that the society had installed water gauges to support the trainees’ work and respond to early warning systems for communities at the risk of flooding in the affected areas.
