No fewer than 200 houses were destroyed by flood caused by torrential rain that lasted almost two days in Argungu local government area of Kebbi State.
LEADERSHIP gathered that the rain that began at the weekend continued until Sunday evening, forcing victims to seek refuge at different public schools in the affected villages for their safety as the ravaging flood continued unabated.
The affected villages include Bayawa, Tiggi, and Fakon Sarki, all under the Argungu Local Government in Kebbi State. Some of the schools have been used as temporary shelters for all affected villages.
The Deputy Governor of Kebbi state, Abubakar Umar Tafidan Kabi, who visited the affected villages for an on-the-spot assessment of damages, also donated N5m to each of the affected villages as first aid and an additional N1m for food and drinks to the flood victims.
He ordered the immediate release of the list of the affected households in the villages, saying, “We deeply sympathise with you and urge you to see that as an act of God. We will forward the list to Kebbi governor, Dr Nasir Idris for immediate action.”
