Executive secretary of the Kano State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) Dr Saleh Jilli has said that flood caused by heavy downpour in the state has killed three persons including a four-year-old girl. The flood also injured one person and destroyed 495 houses at Ajingi local government area of Kano State.
Jili made the disclosure during a condolence visit to the families of the deceased yesterday.
According to him, he was in Ajingi to commiserate with the victims, on behalf of the state government under the leadership of governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
The SEMA boss described the incident that occurred after a heavy rainfall on Aug.3 and Aug.4, where 495 houses were destroyed and three lives lost as unfortunate.
Jili listed the affected areas to include Toranke, Kara Malama, Chuna and Balare in Ajingi local government area.
He said the team will hand over relief items to the chairman Relief and Emergency Committee of Ajingi local government, for onward distribution to the families of the deceased and injured.
Jili advised residents to always clear their drainages and called on residents close to the river and ponds in the state to vacate for now or report to SEMA office for possible assistance.
He said the agency has deployed personnel to the communities affected for the conduct of damage assessment exercise, to enable it develop comprehensive data and assist them.
Earlier in his remarks, the vice chairman Ajingi local government, Alhaji Sa’ad Ibrahim-Toranke, commended the state government and the agency for the kind gesture.
