Flood Ravages Senate President’s Home Town

Hundreds of people living in Bade, Gashua local government area of Yobe State have been rendered homeless following a devastating flood that swept away houses, farmlands and graveyards.

Yobe Governor Mai Mala Buni has commiserated with the people of Bade, Jakusko and other areas affected.

The governor who described it as sad and unfortunate, assured of government assistance for the victims.

Governor Buni directed the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to provide the victims necessary relief packages to cushion their hardships.

He said the state government would liaise with federal agencies including the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to support the victims and complement efforts of the state government.

“The floods are unprecedented this year, the communities had not seen anything close to this in recent history but government will do its best and seek support from the federal authorities to support our people,” he assured.

Governor Buni who had earlier reported the flood to NEMA, commended the agency for its positive response, assuring to follow up with an updated report covering more communities severely affected. The governor said government would also look into proactive measures of providing permanent solutions to check future occurrence.

“With these experiences, we will look at all possible measures to curb the menace of flood and its impact on the communities in the future,” he said.

The governor urged the affected communities to move to safer grounds and avoid areas prone to more floods.
