An airport in Florida is set to be renamed after United States President Donald Trump following the approval of a bill by the state legislature.
Lawmakers in the Republican-controlled assembly voted on Thursday to change the name of Palm Beach International Airport to the “President Donald J. Trump International Airport.”
Governor Ron DeSantis is expected to sign the bill into law.
The facility, located in Palm Beach, a coastal town known for luxury estates and beaches, sits just minutes away from Trump’s residence at Mar-a-Lago.
However, the renaming will still require final approval from the Federal Aviation Administration before it becomes official.
If approved, the airport would join a growing list of institutions proposed to bear the former president’s name.
In December, a board appointed during his administration at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts — a memorial dedicated to John F. Kennedy — voted to adopt the name “Trump-Kennedy Center.”
US media reports also indicate previous proposals to rename Pennsylvania Station and Washington Dulles International Airport after Trump, though those attempts were rejected.
Meanwhile, the United States Department of the Treasury confirmed drafts have been prepared for a commemorative $1 coin featuring Trump’s image, despite longstanding federal rules barring living presidents from appearing on US currency.
