Authorities at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Keffi in Nasarawa State have expressed concern over nine unclaimed corpses in its mortuary and has threatened to conduct a mass burial in a forthnight .

Some of the corpses were deposited in the hospital morgue in 2021 and have not been claimed by relations, our correspondent gathered.

Other corpses, according to the authorities, were brought in 2022.

They said the corpses had exceeded the six months limit permitted by existing legislations on such matters.

A statement by the hospital’s public relations officer, Esther Bature yesterday said the management had arrived at a decision to give the corpses mass burial if relations did not come forward to claim same.

“The decision by the management of the medical centre to issue the deadline is due to the fact that some of the corpses were brought in 2021 and others in 2022, thereby exceeding the time limit of 6 months permitted by law.

“Consequently, members of the public who lost their loved ones during the stated period indicated herein, my please, visit the hospital’s morgue for possible identification and claim,” she said.
