Football Stakeholders Advocate Use of Law for Sports Development

Football stakeholders in Nigeria have emphasized the importance of utilizing the law to drive sports development in the country.

This call was made in Abuja, yesterday, during the Football Law Annual Moot (FLAM24), with the theme: “FIFA Clearing House Regulations: The Journey So far For African Training clubs”

The event brought together football administrators, lawyers, and other stakeholders to discuss the intersection of law and sports in Nigeria.

Speakers at the event highlighted the need for a robust legal framework to govern Nigerian football and transfer activities, citing examples of how the law can be used to promote transparency, accountability, and fairness in the sport.

At the event General Secretary of the Nigerian Football Federation Dr Mohammed Sanusi, said, “In sports apart from participation, there are so many aspects that people can venture into and the legal aspect is one of them.”

Other speakers at the seminar emphasized the importance of contract law, and dispute resolution in the context of the FIFA Clearing House.

The seminar also featured a panel discussion on the role of law in promoting good governance in compensation of training clubs involved in player transfer activities.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Founder,FLAM 24,Pius Ndubuokwu, emphasised the importance of collaboration between lawyers, football administrators, and other stakeholders to promote the development of Nigerian football.

The seminar was attended by a diverse range of stakeholders, including football administrators, lawyers, journalists, and Law students from the University of Abuja, University of Lagos, University of Ilorin and Adekunle Ajasin University.
