A new chapter has opened for the Kaduna Polytechnic Alumni Association following the inauguration of its Board of Trustees (BoT), with former Executive Secretary of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), Engr. Prof. Mohammad Sani Haruna, as chairman.
The inauguration, held yesterday at the institution’s main campus, marked what stakeholders described as a “renewed era of engagement and collaboration,” aimed at repositioning the alumni body for greater impact.
Speaking during the event, Dr Suleiman Umar, the Rector of the polytechnic, commended the alumni for their consistent contributions to education and national development.
The Rector, who is Registrar, Dr Mohammed Tanimu, represented, said that Kaduna Polytechnic had remained “a beacon of technical education in Northern Nigeria,” producing professionals who have impacted industries and communities nationwide.
“For decades, this institution has moulded minds, ignited innovations, and produced leaders who have shaped our nation’s progress”.
He called on the alumni to support the school through mentorship, research collaboration, and developmental projects.
In his acceptance speech, Prof. Haruna expressed gratitude for the confidence placed in him and other members of the Board.
He, however, lamented the low level of alumni engagement, urging members to emulate best practices from other institutions.
“It is indeed disheartening when people fail to appreciate and reciprocate the good gestures of their alma mater by giving back. Even with the challenges, this is an opportunity to reflect on what other alumni bodies are doing to attract motivation and enthusiasm”.
Prof. Haruna pledged to lead with transparency and teamwork, noting that the Board would prioritise initiatives aimed at supporting current students through scholarships, internships, and research collaborations in key areas such as renewable energy, agriculture, and digital transformation.
“By the grace of God, we will do our best to be guided by the constitution, and we will work as a team”.
Other members of the Board of Trustees include: Engr. Ahmed Dinki, Ahaji Suleiman Muhammad Argungu, Alhaji Dalhatu Abubakar, Dr Grace Bila, Dr Patrick Ezu Kigbu, Engr. Musa Gimba and Hon. Abba Anas Adamu.
The event brought together distinguished alumni from various parts of the country, signalling renewed unity and purpose. Many described the initiative as a milestone in repositioning Kaduna Polytechnic for global relevance and sustainable development.
