Onyeozi Jehovah Widows and Less-privileged Foundation in conjunction with Chapel of Hope, Methodist Church of Nigeria, Colony, Uzuakoli have fated 300 widows to a four-day camp meeting and empowerment.

In a sermon at the end of the 9th edition of the meeting at the church, the founder of the foundation, Very Rev Joshua Okpara said the meeting was aimed at giving succour to the widows.

He said the theme of the meeting which is “My Redeemer liveth,” was very timely and was meant to give the widows and the less-privileged hope for now and in God’s coming kingdom.

Speaking to LEADERSHIP after distributing wrappers and various food items worth over N8 million to the widows, Okpara said the foundation had trained and empowered over 15 widows in various skills.

He revealed that he was moved to establish the foundation after realising the agonies widows and the less-privileged pass through due to lack of care and poverty.

“Since my childhood, I have had the burden to assist widows by either fetching water, firewood or running errands for them,” added Okpara, generally referred to as Onyeozi Jehovah.

“Even before my joining the ministry, I have been in the business of providing humanitarian services to the needy and the less-privilaged. In fact, more are coming,” he said.

Explaining that the widows were drawn from Abia, Imo, Ebonyi, and Anambra states, he added that the funds were sourced from good spirited individuals and organisations.

According to him, during the meeting, the widows were engaged in praying and fasting, Bible studies, exposition and teaching, and offered free medical treatment by qualified medical personnel.

“The resource persons included the Diocesesan Bishop of Uzuakoli, Rt. Rev (Dr) James Anyanwu, his wife, Ezinne Pauline Anyanwu, and Prof Nkiruka Ohia of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

Responding on behalf of the widows, Mrs Florence Igbo from Imo State expressed their appreciation to the founder, the foundation, and the church, praying God to bless them and replenish their resources.
