This commendation was articulated in a statement signed by the foundation’s chairman, Ibrahim Dahiru Danfulani Sadaukin Garkuwan Keffi/Betara Biu, and has been made available to the press.

The statement reads, “The foundation’s recognition underscores TheCable’s steadfast dedication to delivering knowledge-driven journalism that prioritises the public interest. Since its establishment on November 29, 2011, and the subsequent launch of its online platform on April 29, 2014, TheCable has consistently strived to be a beacon of respect and integrity in the Nigerian media landscape. The publication’s editorial values—independence, impartiality, integrity, defense of public interest, and respect for diversity—serve as a guiding light for responsible journalism, ensuring that the voices of all Nigerians are heard and respected.”

The commendation also highlighted the role of the foundation’s grand patron, Lt Gen Tukur Yusufu Buratai (Rtd), former chief of army staff, as a stalwart advocate for professionalism in journalism.

“Gen Buratai’s commitment to upholding the highest standards in his field reflects a profound respect for those who dedicate their lives to the pursuit of truth and accountability. His patronage symbolises a deep-seated belief in the importance of media freedom, particularly for journalists who operate free from partisan and sectional interests.
