The Wunti Al-Khair Foundation has commenced the distribution of 6,000 bags of Indorama Urea fertiliser free-of-charge to farmers across Bauchi State to boost agricultural productivity and strengthen food security in the state.
Speaking at the flag-off distribution in Bauchi yesterday, the foundation’s monitoring and evaluation officer, Abubakar Mohammed ‘Yanmaza, said this is the fourth time that the foundation is distributing fertiliser to farmers to support agricultural productivity.
“This initiative aligns with our mission to support farmers, especially the less-privileged farmers in the state, in sustaining agricultural activities. Food security is a critical indicator of a nation’s economic well-being, and we are committed to playing our part,” Yanmaza stated.
He explained that the foundation, established to promote health, education, and economic development, considers the fertiliser distribution an integral part of its economic empowerment and community development programmes.
“The only criteria used in sourcing the beneficiaries is underserved communities, the low income farmers and we know that a large number of the farmers in Bauchi state are low income farmers. So, those are the people that we identified, verified and they are our beneficiaries,” he said.
‘Yanmaza added that strict measures have been put in place to ensure the fertiliser reaches only eligible beneficiaries. “Anyone found diverting the product from its intended purpose will face the consequences,” he warned.
Also speaking, Isyaka Isma’il Wunti, another official of the foundation, said the distribution will cover all Bauchi zones and rural areas of the state.
He urged beneficiaries to use the fertiliser appropriately rather than sell it, stressing that the selection process was transparent and targeted at genuine farmers with limited resources.
Isyaka emphasised that the intervention is aimed at reducing the cost burden of fertiliser and helping farmers improve productivity.
Several beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the Wunti Al-Khair Foundation’s founder, Alhaji Bala Maija’ama Wunti, for the gesture.
Emmanuel Samson, one of the beneficiaries, described the support as a timely intervention that would greatly enhance his farming activities; he thanked the Wunti Al-Khair Foundation for the intervention.
Another beneficiary, Salisu Muhammad Maidawa, also said, “We have nothing to say but to thank the founder. May Allah bless him and fulfill his wishes. This grant came at the right time when we were in dire need of fertiliser.”
Many of the recipients pledged to apply the fertiliser properly to improve yields and contribute to food security in the state.
