The Velocity Group Limited, a Gombe-based humanitarian foundation, has donated 600 bags of 25kg rice to Christian communities as part of activities marking the 2025 Christmas celebration.
The donation, formally presented to the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Gombe State chapter, aims to ease the economic burden on Christian families during the festive season and promote peaceful coexistence across religious lines.
The chairman and chief executive officer of Velocity Group Limited, Engineer Mohammad Aliyu Kombat, stated that the gesture was inspired by the need to share joy and support with Christian faithful during a time of growing economic hardship.
Represented by Adamu Ali Ibrahim at the presentation of the items, Engr. Kombat explained that the intervention was designed to identify with Christians in the spirit of the season and reinforce unity in the state.
“We are here to rejoice with our Christian faithful during this yuletide period. The founder of the humanitarian foundation, Engineer Mohammad Aliyu Kombat, deemed it fit to share with Christians by presenting 600 bags of 25kg rice to celebrate Christmas in Gombe State,” Ibrahim said.
He noted that the foundation is newly established and that the 2025 Christmas outreach marks its first major seasonal intervention for Christians. “This is the first year the foundation is fully operational. Even during the last Christmas, the foundation was not on board,” he added.
Receiving the donation, Reverend Father Joseph Shinga, chairman of CAN in Gombe State, expressed deep appreciation to the foundation and its founder, describing the gesture as timely and uplifting.
“We are deeply grateful and happy for this intervention. Engineer Aliyu Kombat has made our Christmas more joyful. We will continue to pray for him, his family and all his endeavours, that God will bless and prosper him.”
The CAN chairman also appealed to other wealthy individuals and organisations to emulate the gesture, particularly during festive periods when many families struggle to meet basic needs.
“This is a time when things are difficult for many people. I encourage those who have to always think of the less privileged and extend a helping hand, just as Engineer Kombat has done,” he said.
In his Christmas message, Shinga urged Christians to celebrate the season in accordance with the teachings of Christ, emphasising generosity, gratitude and peaceful conduct.
“We should celebrate Christmas in a prayerful and joyful manner, avoiding behaviours that could tarnish the image of the season or our faith. Whatever little we have, let us share with others, including those who are not privileged,” he added.
