The Nurture Special Education Needs Foundation (NSENF) will host an inclusive and therapeutic celebration titled “Play Therapy for Holistic Development: Empowering Children with Neurological and Psychosocial Disabilities” in preparation for the celebration of Children’s Day.

The event will be held on May 31, 2025, in Zaria, Kaduna State.

The program is specifically designed for children with neurological and psychosocial disabilities such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, cerebral palsy, and anxiety disorders. Children who are often excluded from the joy of traditional Children’s Day events.

Unlike typical celebrations that may unintentionally overlook the needs of children with developmental or behavioral challenges, this initiative offers a safe, structured, and inclusive environment where every child can participate, play, and feel celebrated.

The mastermind behind this great initiative is Aisha Ibrahim Ahmad, a renowned Special Needs Educator, mental health advocate, and the founder of NSENF. With a Master’s degree in Special Education (specializing in Emotional and Behavioural Disorders) from Bayero University, Kano, Aisha currently serves as the Coordinator of the Centre for Assessment and Educational Rehabilitation at the Federal University of Education, Zaria.

Aisha’s commitment to inclusive education has positioned her as a leading voice in the field of special needs advocacy in Nigeria. Through NSENF, she has organized numerous community based programs that promote emotional well-being and inclusive development for children living with disabilities.

The Play Therapy for Holistic Development event will feature a series of therapeutic play sessions curated to engage children in meaningful and developmentally appropriate ways. These include sensory play stations involving water, sand, and textured materials, creative arts therapy through painting, coloring, and clay modeling, storytelling and role play using puppets and dolls, movement and music therapy through dance and instrument play; and cooperative games that encourage social interaction.

Beyond providing a joyful experience for the children, the event seeks to raise awareness among caregivers, educators, and the public about the powerful impact of play therapy as a developmental tool.

Meanwhile, individuals, organizations, and corporate entities are encouraged to support the initiative through sponsorships and partnerships. Contributions may include financial donations, in-kind materials such as therapy supplies and refreshments, or the volunteering of professional services and time.

To recognize their support, sponsors will receive public acknowledgment during the event and across media platforms, with branding opportunities on event banners, flyers, and videos.

Looking ahead, the Play Therapy for Holistic Development event is envisioned as an annual Children’s Day celebration. NSENF aims to institutionalize this model and expand its reach through strategic partnerships with NGOs, therapy centers, and government agencies.

Through this initiative, NSENF is not just organizing an event, but igniting a movement. One that places dignity, joy, and therapeutic support at the heart of childhood for all children.
