The film, directed by Bem Pever, sheds light on the many faces of gender-based violence and the courage it takes to speak out, heal, and rebuild.

It was also nominated in two additional categories: Best Narrative Film and Best Film on Women Empowerment.

Founder of Daurama Foundation Dr. Samira Buhari said,” this recognition strengthens our resolve to continue using storytelling as a tool for advocacy and social change.”

“Through Voices Within, we aim to amplify survivors’ voices and challenge the systemic barriers that sustain gender inequality.”

The 2025 edition of the AFFIF has the theme: “From Awareness to Action – Turning Empowerment into Real Change.”

The festivalbrings together filmmakers, advocates, and development organisations committed to leveraging film and media to address social issues across Africa.

Similarly, Representing Daurama Foundation, Francisca Nzeagwu, Communications Coordinator, in her remarks, commended organisers for creating a platform where storytelling meets meaningful change.

“We also extend deep appreciation to our cast and crew, whose creativity, passion, and commitment brought every moment of this story to life,” she added.

‘The Voices Within demonstrates Daurama Foundation’s commitment to ending gender-based violence and promoting gender equality,” Nzeagwu said.

The Foundation said it would continue to drive initiatives that support survivors through skills development, psychosocial support and advocacy for institutional accountability.

Daurama Foundation called on individuals, organisations and policymakers to turn awareness into action by watching and sharing survivor-centred stories, supporting grassroots advocacy, and collaborating to build a society where every woman and girl can live free from violence.
