Francis Odega Reflects on Mentorship Under Sam Loco

Nigerian comic actor Francis Odega has opened up about the impact of late movie icon Sam Loco Efe on his career and personal life. The actor spoke about this while on the podcast ‘Where is the Lie’.

Odega noted that Sam Loco played a vital role in shaping his acting journey and work ethic in the film industry.

He said that to him, the late actor had a unique way of acting and hardly followed the scripts exactly as written.
He also pointed out that he would often follow the veteran actor around just to learn to be a better actor.

“Sam Loco taught me a whole lot. Sam Loco no dey read script. Him go look when them write come rephrase am. He was the one who trained me. I been dey carry Sam Loco bag.

I was like a PA to him just to learn, and I think I learnt well. That time he treated me like a son and would often call my wife his daughter. Sometimes he would give me money, like 50K to give my wife.

I no go lie you, as I reach house na 10K I go come give my wife. She’ll now say, can I call him and thank him, I go come tell her say, no worry I don thank am already. But I don already confess am give my wife…”

Odega is one of the founders of the popular Night of a Thousand Laughs comedy show. The actor came to prominence following a scene from the movie series Back From South Africa, which gained popularity.
