Francis Orbih Re-elected President of BFN For 3rd Term

Francis Orbih has been re-elected as President of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN) for an impressive third consecutive term.

The election took place during an elective congress held at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, where Orbih emerged unopposed, securing all 13 votes cast. Adamu Alhaji Lawan was elected as Vice President, marking a significant moment for the federation.

In his acceptance speech, Orbih extended his congratulations to the newly elected board members and expressed confidence in their collective capability to elevate the sport of badminton in Nigeria. He acknowledged the federation’s modest achievements over the past years but stressed the necessity of building upon these successes to propel Nigerian badminton to new heights.

“I want to congratulate the entire board and express my confidence that we are going to deliver,” Orbih stated. “While we have had humble achievements in the past, it is now time for us to consolidate and take the Federation to greater heights.“

Orbih called for unity and collaboration among stakeholders, urging them to contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of the federation. “I am counting on all of you to come on board because I cannot do this alone. Let us join hands to elevate the Federation to a level where we will become the envy of other sporting federations in Nigeria. We have a lot of work to do, and I encourage everyone to bring whatever they can to support the growth and development of our beloved sport.”

During the inauguration of the new board, the Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, congratulated Orbih on his re-election and praised the election process for being crisis-free. Dikko urged Orbih to build on the gains made during his previous tenures and to strive for even greater accomplishments over the next four years.

“I want to congratulate the board members for unanimously re-electing Francis Orbih and for conducting a crisis-free election,” Dikko remarked. “Orbih has performed admirably and deserves to be re-elected as a member of the African and World bodies. He carries the responsibility of leading the BFN and has no choice but to continue his commendable work.”
