The French Embassy in Nigeria has launched the second edition of Fitness Core as part of its commitment to enhancing bilateral relations with Nigeria through sports diplomacy and physical health initiatives.

The embassy explained that integrating sports with health-oriented activities not only promotes physical fitness but also serves as an effective strategy for fostering friendship and understanding between the French community and their Nigerian counterparts.

This was announced by Mr Thierry Valentin, Head of Cooperation at the embassy, during the opening of the second edition of ‘Fitness Core,’ a monthly sporting event organised in collaboration with Paragonx, held at City Park, Wuse, Abuja.

Thierry further disclosed that, like the first edition, this new iteration of Fitness Core aims to enhance public health and well-being while solidifying diplomatic relationships through shared experiences and social interaction.

“Through this engaging sporting event, the French embassy is promoting an active lifestyle while also laying the groundwork for enduring partnerships and goodwill between France and Nigeria. We have received a warm welcome from Nigerians and a positive reception for all our initiatives, including this event,” he noted.

Abayomi Gbenga Adewole, a lead partner for Paragonx and one of the event partners, mentioned that ‘Fitness Core’ aims to be the primary partner in promoting health and wellness among Nigerians, the French community, and the diplomatic corps.

He commended the French embassy’s dedication to ensuring that initiatives like ‘Fitness Core’ and others with medical and social impact are given the utmost priority.

“Following the success of the first edition, the popularity and impact of Fitness Core have grown significantly. The programme is expected to run for six months, with each event making a meaningful difference in the overall physical health of participants. Good physical health is essential, and regular activity helps maintain a healthy lifestyle. I encourage more individuals to invest in their physical health,” he concluded.

Fitness trainer Edwin August emphasised the importance of caring for overall health, noting that physical well-being is closely linked to mental health.

He explained that health and time are crucial aspects of life, with good health extending one’s lifespan.

August highlighted the flexibility of exercise, stating, “One doesn’t need to be at the gym to stay fit; you can exercise at home by dancing, jogging, or taking walks. Given the limited availability of healthy foods in the market, it’s wise to engage in physical activities to ensure good overall health.”
