Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has invited the Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewhule-led House of Assembly to a meeting today at Government House, Port Harcourt to discuss contentious issues arising from the judgment of the Supreme Court, especially the state’s budget.

The secretary to the state government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, in a letter dated March 7, 2025 and addressed to Amaewhule, said the meeting was in furtherance of the governor’s promise stated in an earlier letter dated March 5, 2025 to notify the speaker that Fubara has received the Supreme Court judgment.

The Supreme Court judgement heightened the political tension in the oil-rich state.

An ultimatum by the reinstalled Amaewhule-led House on the submission of the budget had raised fears of possible impeachment of the governor.

This led to the apex Ijaw socio-cultural group, Ijaw National Council (INC) and its youth wing, warning against any move to impeach Fubara, who is first riverine indigene of the state to emerge governor of the South South state since 1999.

Danagogo, in the letter, stated that issues to be discussed at today’s meeting include; Provision of a befitting space for the Assembly’s sittings and payment of all outstanding remuneration or allowances of the honourable members as well as presentation of Budget and sundry matters.
