Senegal were crowned champions of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament on Sunday night after edging out hosts Morocco 1–0 in a tense final at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.
The moment came in the 94th minute when Pape Gueye fired home the winner during extra time, sealing continental glory for the Teranga Lions after a goalless regulation period.
The final was packed with drama, including a controversial late VAR-reviewed penalty awarded to Morocco. Brahim Diaz stepped up to take it, but his effort was brilliantly saved by Senegal goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, preserving Senegal’s hopes before Gueye’s historic strike.
Despite Morocco’s relentless pressure in the dying minutes, Aliou Cissé’s men held firm to secure victory and lift their second AFCON title after the first in 2021.
However, the 35th AFCON tournament has many other winners. Hereunder is the Full List of AFCON 2025 Award Winners:
