Fund Empowers 88,000 Farmers In Nasarawa, Niger, Plateau

In a bid to boost food security in the country, One Acre Fund Nigeria is empowering 88,000 smallholder with 9000 tonnes of input ahead of the planting season.

One Acre Fund is a social enterprise supporting smallholder farmers with access to financing, quality agricultural inputs, training, and market linkages.

Since launching in Nigeria in 2018, the program has grown to serve over 600,000 farmers across Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, and Plateau states, helping farmers increase productivity, resilience, and income.

According to   statement by Mr. Mr.Kazi Nanyah, Communications Lead, One Acre Fund Nigeria, the current intervention target 88, 000 farmers in Nasarawa, Niger and and Kwara states .

Mr. Nanya said the phased distribution of the inputs to farmers on credit basis, is currently underway, will  be completed by May 31.

He explained that the programme is designed to drive significant yield improvements, with farmers often experiencing a near doubling of maize yields and an average income increase of approximately $328 per household per season.

“The integrated support model combines input credit with agronomic training, advisory, and digital services delivered directly to farming communities.

“This last-mile delivery approach minimizes reliance on intermediaries and ensures timely access to inputs.

“The program also prioritizes inclusion, with women and youth representing over 35% of participating farmers,”  the Communication Lead stated.

He shared Keziah Danjuma, a 24-year-old maize farmer from Pyatta village in Niger State, and beneficiary of of many of the Fund’s beneficiaries’s story thus: “Since I started farming with One Acre Fund, I now receive quality seed and fertilizer on credit right here in my village.

“My maize yield has nearly doubled, and the extra income has allowed me to invest more in my family, while saving me the time and stress of travelling long distances to distant markets for supplies.”.
