Funds Not Affecting Our Work – CCB

The Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) has said that the issue of funding is not affecting its activities.

According to CCB, just like any other government agencies, they get their funding and also give priority to the operations of their state offices.

A statement issued by the chief press secretary of CCB, Mrs Veronica Kato, in reaction to a media report alleging poor funding of the CCB states offices, said the Bureau under the leadership of their acting chairman, Barr Murtala Aliyu Kankiya would have ignored the publication in its entirety, but for the disinformation, incitement and outright falsehoods which the publication set out to achieve, by portraying the Federal Government and indeed the CCB as paying lip service to the issue of Anti-Corruption which undermines the activities of CCB state offices in general.

“It should be noted that the CCB is one of the executive bodies as contained in section 153 of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended). It gets its funds for its activities like any other MDA from the Federal Government of Nigeria.

“It also shares the same constraints which affects other MDAs. The fact is that the CCB State Offices are important and integral components of CCB operations, and have not in any way wilfully neglected the allocation of funds from the Federal Government.

“It may interest the general public to know that CCB State Offices are usually considered and allocated funds over and above Departments in the Headquarters.

“It is also necessary to state that CCB State Offices are usually given priority in fund allocation because of their peculiar needs.

“It is therefore not true to say or give the impression that the CCB Headquarters is not funding its State Offices. The funds are disbursed to State Offices whenever allocations are received from the Federal Government,” she said.

“It is unkind and mischievous to accuse the Headquarters of the Bureau of starving State offices.

“The general public is therefore urged not to take to heart the publication, which is meant to embarrass and portray the CCB as a federal government establishment that has all the resources it needs for its operations but does not care about its offices in the states,” she added.
