Like most countries across the globe, Nigeria’s public and private organisations and even the citizens, are facing the threats of attacks by cyber criminals with a recent report by Kaspersky revealing that the nation faces the second-highest number of cyberattacks on the African continent.

In June, Kasparsky revealed that Nigeria ranked 50th globally for online threats and was gradually becoming focal points for cyber threats.

Painting a grim picture of the situation, Head of the Global Research & Analysis Team (GReAT) for META at Kaspersky, Dr Amin Hasbini, said “Threats to critical infrastructure, financial institutions, government entities, and service providers have predominated the cyber threat landscape over the past year. We have witnessed different threat actors target various businesses across industries.

“Businesses should consider leveraging advanced technologies such as threat feeds, security information and event management systems, endpoint detection and response solutions, and tools with digital forensics and incident response features. It is vital to understand that cyber security measures are an ongoing endeavour–and that there is no universal solution to secure a corporate network or data.”

As should be expected, Nigeria’s tech-driven agency, the Galaxy Backbone has been working round the clock and making some modest efforts to safeguard the nation from cyber-attacks.

This year’s edition of the ICTEL Expo provided the man driving the wheel of progress at the Galaxy Backbone to say what the agency is doing in safeguarding both business in Nigeria and public institutions from these attacks.

At the ICTEL Expo 2023, Managing Director of Galaxy Backbone, Professor Muhammad Abubakar, said the agency was not relenting in its determined efforts to safeguard businesses and government institutions from the ever-evolving cyber threats.

Prof Abubakar who was the keynote speaker harped on the need for robust cyber security measures in an era where digitalization has become an integral part of almost every business operation.

The event has as its theme, “Tech Disrupt: Transforming Industries with Innovation” and when Professor Abubakar mounted the podium to speak on ‘Tech Disrupt’, he held the audience spellbound.

Professor Abubakar said: ”the term disruption often carries negative connotations primarily because it taps into the innate human resistance to change. However, disruption is not synonymous with competition. Instead, it represents a fundamental transformation within the entire industry. Therefore, embracing disruption is essential to progress especially in this fast-paced technology Industry.

“Failing to embrace disruption in today’s market can lead towards being left behind while the world progresses towards more advanced and efficient technologies.  To stay relevant, it is crucial to keep up with trends, and seek ways to improve processes for the better. Viewing ‘Disruption’ as a valuable tool for your business, becomes essential.”

Indeed, keeping up with trends also entails preparing for all eventualities including the rising incidence of cyber-attacks which as the report from Kaspersky suggested, is very endemic in Nigeria.

It must be stated that Galaxy Backbone’s Cyber Security solutions encompass a wide array of services, including threat detection, incident response, penetration testing, and vulnerability assessments. The firm’s team of highly skilled Cyber Security experts work round-the-clock to identify and neutralize threats, thereby preventing potential data breaches, financial losses, and reputational damage to their clients.

The scale of cyber-attacks on businesses has been a growing concern globally, prompting governments, corporations, and individuals to prioritize cyber security measures. As organizations increasingly adopt remote work arrangements, cloud technologies, and IoT devices, the attack surface has expanded, making cyber security vigilance more critical than ever before.

There is no contesting the fact that Galaxy Backbone is deploying all the resources at its disposal to secure businesses from cyber threats in their ongoing battle against cybercriminals.

Indeed, as the cyber threat landscape continues to evolve, it is evident that partnerships with reputable cyber security organizations such as Galaxy Backbone will be fundamental in safeguarding businesses’ digital assets and ensuring a secure digital future.
