National chairman of the All Progressives Congress(APC) Alhaji Abɗullahi Ganduje has charged the youths in Nigeria to embrace vocational training as a means of survival and stop hunting for white-collar jobs that are not available.
Ganduje, who spoke at the opening of a Progressive Enterprise Skills Development Training organised for 2,000 youths by the APC national youth leader Dayo Israel in Lagos, noted that most advanced countries, like China and Japan, included skill acquisition in their school curriculum and started acquiring vocational training right from childhood.
The APC national chairman, who was represented by the party’s deputy national chairman (South), Chief Emma Eneukwu, said he is affectionate about the development of the youth and passionate about any issue that affects them.
He encouraged the youth to take advantage of the skill acquisition organised by the party’s youth wing to develop themselves, adding that that was the only way to develop Nigeria.
Ganduje noted that, if skill acquisition becomes the vogue in Nigeria, the level of unemployment and crime would be reduced, because the youths would be engaged meaningfully.
According to him, “The president is bothered about insecurity in the country. We can tackle it by changing our school curriculum and including vocational training.”
Earlier, the National youth leader Israel in his address said the training programme is a vision plan for the youths and those that are participants were not necessarily members of the APC and it was part of the four years vision plan the party has for the youth by training them in skill acquisition.
Israel noted that the training will be for five days, he explained that the party decided to train the youth in skill acquisition after it has studied how youths in other countries are empowered.
