Ganduje Recognises Emir Sanusi At Kano Deputy Govs Swearing in
Share on WhatsAppShare on FacebookShare on XTelegram

Former Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, on Tuesday publicly recognised Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II as the Emir of Kano and Chairman of the Kano State Council of Chiefs.

Ganduje acknowledged Sanusi during the swearing-in  of the new Deputy Governor of Kano, Murtala Sule Garo, at the Government House in Kano.

During his address, the former governor greeted Sanusi by his full traditional title, a gesture that drew loud applause from dignitaries and attendees.

This is the first time Ganduje has openly recognised Sanusi in that capacity since their well-publicised fallout.

In 2020, while serving as governor, Ganduje had deposed Sanusi as Emir of Kano. However, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf later reinstated Sanusi, removing Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, whom Ganduje had installed as his replacement.

Ado Bayero, however, refused to relinquish his position, with suggestions that he had the backing of Ganduje and the Federal Government.

Matters took a new turn when Governor Yusuf defected to the APC a few months ago.

Sanusi was subsequently allowed to hold the Sallah Durbar, unlike in the past when the police had invited him for questioning following violence that broke out during the Durbar, which they had banned.
