Plans to establish an independent Hisbah group – Hisbah Fisabilillahi, in Kano State, by the former state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, have been suspended.
The suspension was announced in a statement issued on Tuesday by Alhaji Baffa Babba Dan-Agundi, who stated that the move was withdrawn following a stakeholders’ meeting involving representatives from all 44 local government areas of the state.
According to the statement, the meeting, held at the Tinubu Campaign Office on December 16, resolved to suspend the proposed establishment of the independent Hisba group, allowing the Kano State Government to address the matter amicably.
Dan Agundi explained that the decision was informed by widespread criticism that trailed the attempt to set up the independent Hisbah group, as well as the intervention of stakeholders, particularly the Kano State Government, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the immediate past governor of Kano State, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
He noted that the interventions were aimed at ensuring peace, stability and the maintenance of law and order in the state.
“The meeting resolved that the establishment of an independent Hisbah Fisabilillah be suspended to give room for further consultations and engagement by the Kano State Government,” the statement said.
The statement further noted that stakeholders at the meeting reaffirmed their commitment to respecting constituted authority and agreed to cooperate with security agencies in maintaining law and order across the state.
It further stressed that participants resolved to prioritise public peace and security, and to avoid any actions capable of undermining safety and stability in Kano State and the country as a whole.
