Ganduje’s Eldest Son Joins NDC, Picks Reps Form

Abdulaziz Umar Ganduje, the eldest son of former APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has obtained the nomination form to contest the House of Representatives seat for Dawakin Tofa/Tofa/Rimin Gado Federal Constituency under the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He picked up the form on Saturday ahead of preparations for the next general election, marking a notable political shift in Kano State’s evolving political landscape.

Despite his father’s long-standing influence within the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdulaziz has remained aligned with the Kwankwasiyya movement led by former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

A viral video circulating online showed Abdulaziz meeting with Kwankwaso shortly after obtaining the nomination form, where he reportedly briefed the former governor on his intention to contest and his readiness for the political race ahead.

The development adds a new dimension to the long-standing political rivalry between Ganduje and Kwankwaso, whose alliance collapsed years ago after dominating Kano politics together.

Abdulaziz has for years maintained a political distance from his father’s camp, openly identifying with the Kwankwasiyya movement.

His political stance became more pronounced following a reported dispute involving his mother, Professor Hafsat Umar Ganduje, over an alleged breached agreement, which he had previously escalated to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

He is now seeking to win the same federal constituency seat previously contested by his brother, Umar Abdullahi Ganduje, under the APC in the 2023 general election.

Umar Ganduje lost that election to the candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), despite the political influence of their father, who was then governor of Kano State.
