A Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, delegation under the Nigerian Energy Support Programme (NESP) has reaffirmed its commitment to bolstering safety standards in Nigeria’s power sector.
The German Development Cooperation team, which paid a courtesy visit on the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA) headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, further reinforced ongoing collaboration with NEMSA in renewable energy development, regulatory standards, and capacity building for the electricity sector.

Karid congratulated NEMSA’s leadership and stressed the enduring partnership, highlighting key achievements such as the development of Guidelines for the Inspection and Certification of Solar Mini-Grids in Nigeria.
He noted that the collaboration has also delivered targeted training for NEMSA staff to enhance technical capabilities in enforcing safety and quality standards amid the sector’s renewable energy growth.
Furthermore, he highlighted the significant milestones achieved through the collaboration with NEMSA, including the successful development of the Guidelines for the Inspection and Certification of Solar Mini-Grids in Nigeria.
The partnership has also supported targeted capacity-building initiatives for NEMSA personnel, aimed at strengthening the Agency’s technical capabilities in ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards within Nigeria’s growing renewable energy sector.
Receiving the team, the MD/CEO NEMSA and chief electrical inspector of the federation, Olusegun Adesayo, reaffirmed its commitment to promoting electrical safety, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI), while expressing appreciation to GIZ and the European Union for their continued support toward strengthening Nigeria’s power sector.
He added that the next steps as the collaboration continues will be the formal launch of the guidelines and deeper collaboration in advancing renewable energy deployment, energy efficiency, and rural electrification in Nigeria.
The Nigerian Energy Support Programme (NESP) is a technical assistance programme co-funded by the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and implemented by GIZ in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Power.
Both organisations reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing sustainable energy solutions, improving standards in renewable energy deployment, and supporting Nigeria’s transition to a safe, efficient, and sustainable electricity sector.
