Ghana ICT Varsity Marks Record-breaking 2025 Enrollment

Since attaining its charter in 2020, the Ghana Communication Technology University (GCTU) has witnessed steady growth in its enrollment numbers, reflecting the institution’s rising prominence as Ghana’s premier ICT university.

The growth reached a historic milestone in 2025, with a record-breaking 5,128 new students admitted into the university.

At the 34th matriculation ceremony, Vice-Chancellor of GTU, Professor Emmanuel Ohene Afoakwa, delivered a heartfelt address to the newly admitted students, their families, and guardians, marking the beginning of an exciting academic journey for the freshers.

 

“Today is a special day for you, your families, and your guardians, and we share in your joy and glory,” Prof. Afoakwa stated. “For all of you, an interesting journey is about to begin. As Vice-Chancellor, it is my privilege to welcome you with open arms into the GCTU family as the newest members of the university community. You are our pride and joy.”

 

Prof. Afoakwa reiterated GCTU’s commitment to ICT education, emphasizing that the university is mandated by law to train the next generation of ICT professionals who will drive technological advancements in Ghana and beyond.

 

“This is not just a university; it is a hub of knowledge, innovation, and boundless opportunities,” he noted. “Education at GCTU is not only about acquiring knowledge but also about fostering honesty, respect, equality, and compassion. Our motto, ‘Knowledge Comes from Learning,’ signifies a deep understanding of the ‘what, why, when, where, and how’ of everything.”

 

Prof. Afoakwa said the university received 9,284 applications but granted 7,468 admissions out of which 5,128, marking the highest in the university’s history, enrolled. Giving a breakdown, he said 4,842 were for undergraduate admission comprising 3,467 males, 1,375 females, 422 were for postgraduate admissions comprising 405 Master’s, 17 PhD candidates.

 

He emphasised the importance of maintaining honesty and integrity as core values isnsiting that the university upholds academic excellence, ethical behavior, and freedom of thought, warning against dishonest conduct such as examination malpractice and sexual harassment.
