Ghana national football team have dismissed head coach Otto Addo just 72 days before their opening match at the FIFA World Cup.
The Ghana Football Association confirmed the decision in a brief statement, offering no explanation for the termination or details of a successor.
Addo’s departure follows a run of poor results, including a 2–1 defeat to Germany national football team in Stuttgart, as well as a heavy 5–1 loss to Austria. The Black Stars have now lost four consecutive friendly matches.
This was Addo’s second spell in charge, having previously led Ghana during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where the team exited at the group stage despite a win over South Korea.
Ghana, appearing at their fifth World Cup, have been drawn in a challenging Group L alongside Croatia national football team, England national football team and Panama national football team. Their opening fixture is scheduled for 17 June in Toronto.
