The campaign, inaugurated in Maiduguri on Friday, focuses on encouraging nursing mothers to exclusively breastfeed their children in the first six months of life.

The Executive Director of GHIV-Africa, Mrs Mulikat Bamidele, emphasised the importance of exclusive breastfeeding as the best gift to a child.

She said “breast milk is the best gift a mother can give to her child. We are committed to supporting nursing mothers in Borno to adopt this vital practice.”

The IRC Country Director, Mr Nathaniel Mosher, highlighted the critical role of breastfeeding in infants’ health.

The Borno Commissioner for Health, Prof. Babagana Mallam Gana, represented by Dr Haruna Mshelia, lauded the initiative and assured government’s support for its success.

He added that the campaign would greatly contribute to improving infant health and wellbeing across the state. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the campaign include training of healthcare workers and community volunteers, distribution of educational materials and community outreach programmes to raise awareness about the benefits of exclusive breastfeeding.
