The Global Village Healthcare Initiative for Africa (GHIV-Africa) in collaboration with the International Rescue Committee (IRC) has launched an exclusive breastfeeding campaign in Borno State to promote the health and wellbeing of infants.

The campaign, inaugurated in Maiduguri on Friday, focuses on encouraging nursing mothers to exclusively breastfeed their children in the first six months of life.

The Executive Director of GHIV-Africa, Mrs Mulikat Bamidele, emphasised the importance of exclusive breastfeeding as the best gift to a child.

She said “breast milk is the best gift a mother can give to her child. We are committed to supporting nursing mothers in Borno to adopt this vital practice.”

The IRC Country Director, Mr Nathaniel Mosher, highlighted the critical role of breastfeeding in infants’ health.

He said “exclusive breastfeeding is the cornerstone of infants’ health.

“We are proud to partner GHIV-Africa in this campaign, which we believe will significantly improve the wellbeing of babies.”

The Borno Commissioner for Health, Prof. Babagana Mallam Gana, represented by Dr Haruna Mshelia, lauded the initiative and assured government’s support for its success.
