Giveno Brand Rethinking How We Wear Clothes

Living up to its slogan, ‘Wear better outfits with care’, Giveno, as it is called, has a touch of structure and fluidity. There’s a kind of confidence that runs through the brand, one that wouldn’t need to struggle for the spotlight or attention.

Since 2018, Chisom Clara Aguocha and her team have been known for crafting clothes that hold shape yet move easily. They have stayed committed to sewing outfits that remain memorable and timeless without being forced.

Giveno calls itself a sustainable occasion fashion house, but truthfully, that doesn’t totally explain who they are. Their real charm lies in how it balances precision with softness, such that you begin to wonder how they do it altogether, and at once.

Is it in their gowns that are clearly thought through, or in their kimonos that stand tall but still flow? Everything is measured as it should be, nothing rushed, enabling them to give nothing less than expected.

The brand recognises specific fashion language, such as tailoring lines that frame the body, choosing fabrics that follow movement, and crafting ruffles that appear in sculptural folds rather than wild bursts. At the end of every design, the clothes feel natural when worn.

When you wear them, you’ll sense that it is made by someone who understands that elegance doesn’t have to come from excess fabrics and accessories, but how well a piece prettily sits, moves, and endures.

Aside from providing fashionable ladies with good outfits, they believe style should last. And that’s why we’re not separating the sustainability of this review. It is stitched into how the brand works. The fabrics often come from surplus or deadstock sources.

Each pattern is cut to reduce waste. Offcuts are turned into trims and floral appliques. Some pieces can be adjusted, layered, or reworked. The label does things the local way. Production happens in small ateliers where skillfulness and affordable pay go hand in hand. Every piece is tailored to meet your fashion needs. That’s why no two designs feel the same. This deliberate move by the brand is what allows them to cut through the noise to this day.

Indeed, Giveno has mapped a place for itself in the world. They think globally and act locally, and their wears sing that. They are made to be worn repeatedly. That said, join us as we critique their 2023 collection.

The first outfit is armless. It’s a set of two pieces: a black armless top and a white, free-flowing skirt. The curve-shaped zigzag design stands as the highlight of the dress. The design adds a subtle, Gen Z-ish feel to the outfit. Although it looks decorative, it was done with intention. A deliberate action towards accentuating feminine curves, without doing too much.

The waistline of the piece gives off the impression that it is a structured corset. Following right after is what looks similar to wide-leg pants but is actually a skirt. We like how free the white flair skirt looks. It certainly reflects simplicity and style. Imagine putting on this kind of outfit for a rooftop cocktail event or a modern wedding dinner after-party. Have no doubt, eyes would be on you.

However, the fabric could use a slightly firmer lining to avoid creasing at the lower hem. This choice would help maintain the crisp, polished look the designer clearly aimed for.

Recommendation: If Giveno ever revisits this design, we recommend adding a detachable strap option. If and when this is done, it would make the outfit even more versatile for prospective wearers and others who prefer extra support with their clothing. Nevertheless, this is a beautiful piece.

Ah, yes! This white lace gown, paired with a flowing jacket, appears more modest. Modest because it covers all the necessary areas. The pattern looks soft and floral. It creates an illusion of delicacy without losing strength.

The neckline is a turtle neck that covers the wearer’s skin, unlike the first look. This inclusion gives the lace fabric used more shine while still maintaining the outfit’s overall refined tone. The waistline is visibly held with a white satin belt. It doesn’t look so tight, but firm enough to add shape to the body structure of the dress.

The dress’s layering is another unique element. The satin jacket folds softly around the shoulders, and it falls into wide sleeves. It’s one of those outfits that can easily fit any style. You could either remove it for a more daring and lacey moment or keep it on for an air of grace. The distinction in the satin’s smooth finish and the matte lace creates the tactile depth Giveno is known for.

While the jacket is a free fall, it might overwhelm women with smaller body frames. We also believe that adding a subtle tape to hold the wrist would tighten it properly and enhance the polishing. These additions will make the dress look better.

Recommendation: There are certain outfits you wear to exude elegance and class, wherever you go. This is one of those outfits. However, while the jacket is a free fall, it might overwhelm women with smaller body frames. We also believe that adding a subtle tape to hold the wrist would tighten it properly and enhance the polishing. These additions will give the dress an uplift.

The designer can also fine-tune the outfit by adding a touch of another lace material, say, colour black. A combination of white and black never goes wrong.

This third look is where Giveno’s creative prowess shows up. The silhouette is like a build-up from the same lace foundation as the previous piece. But this time around, it adds architectural energy, especially with the top.

Take note of the asymmetrical look that the style gives. One part of the sleeve is crafted with delicate lace. It is slim and well-fitted. On the other hand, the second sleeve appears to have a ruffled touch.

As displayed in the image, the outfit also has a slim-fitted waistline. This allows the peplum-like extension to curve gracefully over the hips. The lace skirt part of the outfit is tailored straight. This lengthens the frame and keeps the whole outfit soft and not heavy.

Recommendation: From a craftsmanship standpoint, the finishing was excellently done. The alignment of the lace is looking sharp, and the details suggest that choosing the fabric itself was a brilliant fashion design move. However, we recommend that the transition between the satin bodice and lace sleeve needs to be more softened.

We also believe the designer should consider styling the outfit with attractive earrings or a textured clutch for more depth. Now, imagine putting on silver earrings to go with the design. Just imagine the Cinderella-like appearance it would give off. Also consider using a belt that cinches and brings out the model’s shape. These little extra touches would make the look move from simple to stunning.

Conclusively, Giveno’s collection proves that sustainability can be maintained without sacrificing style or expression. Every piece is thoughtful, from the choice of fabric to each seam. How can we forget how each design uniquely represents African culture?

Interestingly, this doesn’t affect the modern feel it exudes. This allows for each fashion piece to be worn anywhere and anytime. If Giveno continues building with this kind of intention, it will grow into a label that creates its own rhythm.
