Glaciers FC of Tunde Ahmed Adejumo – Partner – Glaciers Chambers are the new champions of the Abuja Lawyers League, an annual inter law-firm football competition, tagged ‘The COPPA DEI CAMPIONI 2024’.
The team defeated Bin Koto FC 1-0 in a keenly contested final to emerge champions in their debut season.

The final match lived up to the pre-match billing as players from both Glaciers FC and Bin Koto FC displayed excellent football skills. The match was tense as both teams were anxious to score.
As expected there were fireworks from both teams right from the moment when the referee signaled the commencement of the day’s proceeding. Goal scoring chances were rather few as the game was a cagy affair and the first ended scoreless. But in the second half, the Glaciers took the best initiative to end the deadlock with a superb goal that threw their teeming fans and spectators alike into a frenzy of dance and jubilations.

Speaking at the event, former chairman of NBA Lagos branch, Chukwuka Ikwuazom (SAN) commended the organisers for providing the platform for lawyers to exercise their body and socialize with one another.

“Unlike last year when I sponsored the competition, I didn’t have the opportunity to watch many of the games, only saw a few. But the few games that I watched were quite interesting, the level of skills that were displayed and I think that the organisers of Abuja Lawyers League are doing a great job.

“They have been doing this for some years now and I’m excited about the opportunity that it provides for our colleagues to come together to exercise their body and socialize with one another, and it is an interesting thing that should continue,” Ikwuazom said.
The chief coordinator of the tournament, Barrister Olujimi Olujide-Poko, described this year’s competition, which is the 8th edition in the series, as exciting and revolving.

“It has been a very wonderful period for lawyers in Abuja and interesting encounters, seeing stronger teams emerging from the smaller teams. In fact none of the previous winners made it to the final this year and it shows that the league is revolving. It is not a farmers league and it doesn’t belong to one team. So,we thank God for a successful tournament.

“Our key focus this year is to increase awareness on kidney disease, we have fliers for everybody that come here on how to take care of your kidney and prevent any form of disease to your kidney. It is also good for us as lawyers considering the nature of our work, sitting in one place for a long time, and this helps us to exercise. I can tell you that most of the lawyers are not happy that the tournament is coming to an end because now they would go back to their normal life.
