The craze about getting the right product to enhance beauty and maintain steeze has become a necessity at these times. Which has also brought damages to some trying everything possible within reach to combat their dilemma. Appearance matters and builds our self confidence. Hence, the reason for the anxiety of looking for the best and quickest solution there is.  The proverb “beauty is only skin deep” does not apply when you are faced with irritants on your skin and you are depressed about it and looking for the best solution for it.

“Skin care is a range of practices that support skin integrity, enhance its appearance, and relieve skin conditions. They can include nutrition, avoidance of excessive sun exposure, and appropriate use of emollients” Wikipedia. Some may go as far as applying animal dung to skin just so that they get the solution for their discomforts. There are various reasons for skin diseases, here are a few:

“Infections: Bacterial, viral, or fungal infections can be caused by germs entering the body through cuts, wounds, or breaks in the skin. Allergies: Allergic reactions to allergens like poison ivy or bug bites can cause skin conditions like hives and atopic eczema. Parasites: Parasites like scabies, head lice, and bedbugs can cause skin conditions. Genetics: Genetic abnormalities like moles or birthmarks can be present at birth. Lifestyle factors: Sun exposure, heat, and living in dry climates can contribute to skin diseases. Underlying health conditions: Conditions that affect the thyroid, kidneys, or immune system can cause skin diseases. Medications: Some medications, like those used to treat inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), can cause skin conditions as a side effect. Injuries: Sunburn, wounds, and bites or stings from insects can cause skin conditions” Cleveland Clinic.

I am not disputing the efficacy of skin care products, I am just of the opinion that it must first start from the inside. So, as we delve into the foods and fruits that are able to help us bring a natural glow to the products and routines we would find suitable for our own skin type. Let us also bear in mind that skin care integrity does not begin from the products but from nutrition and down to the efficient products that help us from the outside.

  1. Avocados: They are high in healthy fats. These fats benefit many functions in your body, “including the health of your skin involving healthy women consuming one avocado daily for 8 weeks. The researchers found that daily avocado consumption may lead to enhanced elasticity and firmness of facial skin. Avocados are also a good source of vitamin E, which is an important antioxidant that helps protect your skin from oxidative damage” HealthLine
  2. Walnuts: “The omega-6s in your diet—like those in walnut oil—may improve skin health, heal wounds faster, and treat eczema, acne, and even some skin cancers. You can also apply walnut oil to your skin. The oil’s anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects may help slow signs of aging and treat conditions such as psoriasis. Cancer prevention: While we need more research, studies show that the nutrients in walnuts may slow the growth of cancer cells” WebMD
  3. Sweet Potatoes: “Beta carotene found in sweet potatoes are nutrients found in plants. It functions as provitamin A, which means it can be converted into vitamin A in your body. Carotenoids like beta carotene help keep your skin healthy by acting as a natural sunblock. When consumed, this antioxidant is incorporated into your skin and helps protect your skin cells from sun exposure. This may help prevent sunburn, cell death, and dry, wrinkled skin” HealthLine.

In the quest for radiant and healthy skin, the foundation begins from within. The foods we consume play a pivotal role in nourishing our skin, providing essential nutrients, and supporting its natural glow. By incorporating nutrient-rich options like fatty fish, avocados, walnuts, and sweet potatoes into your diet, you empower your body to heal, protect, and enhance your skin from the inside out. While skincare products can complement this journey, true and lasting skin health starts with mindful nutrition. Let your plate be the first step in your skincare routine.
