Residents of Anguwar Matasa in Abude community, Funakaye local government area of Gombe State, have commended an aspirant for the House of Representatives seat for Gombe, Kwami and Funakaye federal constituency, under the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Zakariyya Jidda, for providing a borehole to address water scarcity in the area.
The commissioning of the project over the weekend, was attended by the Emir of Funakaye, Alhaji Yakubu Muhammad Kwairaga, alongside community leaders and youths who described the intervention as timely and impactful.
At the ceremony, the Emir praised Jidda for funding the project, noting that the gesture reflected his commitment to grassroots development and public service.
“I am not surprised by this intervention because this is consistent with what people say about his dedication to the well-being of the people.”
He also urged other politicians and public office seekers to emulate such community-driven initiatives aimed at improving the living conditions of rural residents.
Malam Nura Shaibu, the chief of staff to the aspirant, disclosed that the politician had pledged to construct 10 boreholes across Funakaye council as part of efforts to improve access to clean drinking water.
Residents of the community said the borehole would ease the hardship they previously faced in sourcing water, especially women and children who travelled long distances daily.
The community head, Abdulhamid Dan Jajo, expressed appreciation to the politician for what he described as a life-changing intervention. “We suffered seriously before because of water shortage, but now Allah has brought relief to us through Zakariyya Jidda,” he said.
