The district head of Tukulma in Akko local government area of Gombe State, Maigari Bashar, has appealed to the state government and federal representatives to connect the community to the national grid to boost economic activities.
He said since its establishment, Tukulma District, was not fortunate to be electrified despite several appeals to national and state political leaders from the area.
In an exclusive interview with LEADERSHIP in his palace over the weekend, Bashar regretted that Tukulma ward is the only ward in the state without access to a power supply.
“I do not know any other ward in Gombe that is not electrified but my own Tukulma. We have severally appealed to our political leaders to electrify the community without any success yet.
“We have a large population which provides prospects for economic activities most of which cannot be done without access to power,” he said.
Similarly, the district head requested the Gombe State government to construct a senior secondary school for the community to give their children access to that level of education.
“We have more than 20 primary and junior secondary schools in Tukulma but no senior secondary school.
Often, when a child finishes junior secondary school, his parents have to sponsor him to a remote location to complete secondary education.
“However, most of the parents cannot bear the financial implications of taking their children to a far distance for senior secondary education because of poverty,” he lamented.
The district head said that during the electioneering campaigns for last year’s general elections, they have repeatedly informed all candidates to look into our plights.
