The Gombe State government has approved the construction of 17 new roads in various local governments of the state and a bridge in Kwarin Misau area of the state capital at the cost of N38 billion.
The commissioner for information, Meshack Audu Lauco, disclosed this while briefing journalists on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting in Gombe yesterday.
He said the new roads include the 4.55 kilometer Jalingo township road in Funakaye, 2.7 kilometer Bajoga township road, 4.03 kilometer Dumbu- Tsando road, 1.8 kilometer access road to Government Mega College Dadinkowa and 1.5 kilometer access road to Government Mega College Dukku.
Other roads awarded are; 4.7 kilometer Kumo township road, 11.5 kilometer Kwadon- Kunji -Jada -Goni Bukar -Laleko to Sabon gari, 10.5 kilometer road network in Tumfure, 6 kilometer Kaltungo township road, 7 kilometer Billiri township road and road to Kanuwal of Yamaltu Deba LGA.
The commissioner said the road contracts were in line with the policy of the government to construct at least 100 kilometers of roads in each of the 11 local government areas of the state, adding that all the projects had completion periods ranging from to three to 12 months.
Kwarin Misau where the government approved the building of a bridge is one of the areas worst affected by gully erosion and the bridge linking the community with others places like Yelenguruza, Barunde, BCGA and bypass had broken down last year during the rainy season, making movement in and out of the area difficult.
