Chief of Staff to the factional national chairman of African Democratic Congress (ADC), Nafiu Bala Gombe, Hon. Bala Sani Kumo, has obtained the party’s expression of interest and nomination forms to contest for the Gombe Central Senatorial District seat in the 2027 general elections.

The move is already generating political conversations across Gombe State, with supporters and political observers describing Kumo’s entrance into the race as a development that could reshape the contest within the ADC ahead of the elections.

Kumo’s aspiration is expected to focus heavily on tackling key socio-economic and governance challenges confronting the district, including youth unemployment, inadequate infrastructure, poor healthcare delivery, limited economic opportunities, and concerns about transparency and accountability in governance.

Speaking shortly after obtaining the nomination forms, Kumo said his ambition was to use public office as a platform for service and problem-solving rather than for personal gain.

According to him, the people of Gombe Central deserve leadership that prioritises accountability, consultation, and measurable development outcomes.

“My objective for obtaining the Gombe Central Senatorial District nomination form is because I believe that public office is a public trust, not a personal privilege,” he said.

“Our democracy works best when citizens with a genuine commitment to service step forward, offer themselves for scrutiny, and seek the mandate of the people.”

Kumo explained that one of his key motivations for joining the race was the need to contribute practical solutions to the problems affecting communities across the senatorial district.

He noted that his campaign would be built around transparency, participation, and inclusive governance.

“I took this step to contribute my skills and experience to solving the problems facing our community, and to give constituents a clear choice rooted in accountability, transparency, and participation,” he added.

Political analysts believe that issues such as youth empowerment, infrastructure development, education, healthcare improvement, and economic inclusion are likely to dominate the political debate in Gombe Central ahead of the 2027 polls.

Observers also note that growing concerns about unemployment and access to opportunities among young people in the district could become major campaign themes as political activity intensifies.

Kumo further stressed that his leadership style would prioritise consultation with constituents and responsiveness to public concerns.

“I believe I am the right person for this role because my approach is grounded in democratic principles. First, I am committed to listening more than speaking, to making decisions through consultation with the people I would represent, not behind closed doors,” he stated.

He also pledged to uphold integrity, respect for the rule of law, and prudent management of public resources if elected to the Senate.

“Leadership in a democracy means being answerable to the electorate, respecting the rule of law, and using public resources solely for the public good,” Kumo said.

The ADC chieftain assured residents of Gombe Central that, if elected, his focus would be on delivering practical, measurable results while ensuring that every segment of the district is fairly represented in governance.

“If given the mandate, my focus will be on delivering measurable results while ensuring that every voice has a fair hearing in the process,” he said.

With the formal acquisition of nomination forms, political attention is expected to shift toward grassroots consultations, mobilisation, and strategic alliances among political actors preparing for the 2027 general elections in Gombe State.
