Gombe-led ADC Distances Self From Ibadan Opposition Summit, Says It’s Ready For 2027

The factional national leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), led by Hon. Nafiu Bala Gombe, has declared that the party was not involved in the recently convened National Summit of Opposition Political Parties held in Ibadan.

The party also assured members and supporters nationwide of its full participation in the 2027 general elections.

In a statement issued by the party’s Director of Media and Public Affairs, Christopher Okechukwu, the ADC said it was formally disassociating itself from the gathering, describing the event as one attended by individuals pursuing personal political ambitions.

Okechukwu said that the party plans to field credible candidates for all elective offices across the country in line with its constitutional mandate and democratic principles.

He said: “The duly constituted and legitimate National Leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) under the tutelage of Hon. Nafiu Bala Gombe, hereby categorically disassociates itself from, and declares its non-participation in, the so-called National Summit of Opposition Political Parties convened in Ibadan.

“As a principled and formidable opposition party in Nigeria, the ADC refuses to align itself with, or lend credibility to, a coalition of disgruntled elements whose political desperation knows no bounds.

“These individuals have demonstrated that, in pursuit of their personal ambitions, they will stop at nothing, including acts capable of destabilizing the peace, unity, and stability of our nation.

“These are the same individuals who, in flagrant defiance of a subsisting judgment of the Court of Appeal, unlawfully organized congresses and National Convention. They have now audaciously presented themselves at the summit as bona fide members of the ADC.

“For the avoidance of doubt and for the record, we state unequivocally that they are not members of our party. Their presence at the gathering can best be described as a reunion of former PDP members masquerading under a false banner.

“We reaffirm our unwavering commitment to the rule of law and reiterate our earlier position as a law-abiding political party. We are patiently awaiting the judgment of the Supreme Court, which is anticipated any moment from Monday.

“Furthermore, we assure our esteemed members and supporters across the country that the African Democratic Congress shall fully participate in the forthcoming general elections scheduled for January 2027.

“We will field credible candidates in all elective positions at every level, in line with our constitutional mandate and democratic principles.”
