The Association of Non-Governmental Organisations (ANGO), an umbrella body of all civil society organisations in Gombe State, has elected a new set of officials to steer the association’s affairs for the next four years.
Bachama Yusuf, a seasoned NGO practitioner, emerged as the new chairman of the association, polling 23 votes.
He will be deputised by Idris Maigari Lawanti, who garnered 22 votes.
Our correspondent reports that other officials elected include Yahaya Mohammed as secretary, Farida Mohammed Dunama as assistant secretary, and Joshua Stephen Kenan as director of Finance and Administration with 10 other departmental directors.
The election, conducted by the Electoral Committee (ELCOM) on Saturday, saw 23 member organisations out of 36 participate, representing 64% of the total membership.
Speaking after the election, the new chairman, Bachama Yusuf, expressed his gratitude to the members for the confidence reposed in him.
He promised to work tirelessly to promote the interests of NGOs in Gombe State and ensure that the association becomes a strong voice for the marginalised and vulnerable.
